Safer and cleaner ward 20 after clean-up campaign

Ward councillor, Phaka Murwa explained that the programme had been adopted by the municipality, where councillors identify areas within their wards that need focused attention.

POLOKWANE – The Serala View dam area is safer and cleaner following a clean-up campaign that was held on March 31.

The campaign is one of a number of planned maintenance programmes towards a cleaner environment in ward 20.

The aim of these campaigns is also to raise awareness about the scale of the litter problem in the city, as well as to promote behavioural change in citizens.

Ward councillor, Phaka Murwa explained that the programme had been adopted by the municipality, where councillors identify areas within their wards that need focused attention.

“The clean-up campaigns are also an effective way to bring the community together, enhancing social bonds and making people more appreciative of their common environment.”

Despite the rain, some residents took the time to assist in cleaning up their community on the day.

“Other than the actual clean-up, the campaigns also entail educating and informing the community about littering and reporting illegal dumping to the authorities,” Murwa said.

You can report illegal activities to the following number at the municipality: (015) 290 2481/ 2190 so that fines can be issued for illegal dumping.

The next clean-up campaign will take place at the beginning of May.
