Youth encouraged to regain the concept of Easter

Pastor Mmathapi Selema says the youth have lost the concept of Easter because they haven't been taught it and encourages them to learn more about it.

POLOKWANE – Christians around the world will celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ this weekend.

For most, it is a time where families clean the graves of their loved ones while others gather in church and remember the cross and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

As time goes on, generations seem to be changing the concept of Easter and how it is celebrated.

Seshego youth Dimpho Sebushi thinks the youth of today weren’t taught the true essence of Easter and believes it would have turned into a norm had they been taught properly.

“Due to lack of knowledge about Easter, we as the youth moved from cleaning our lost relatives graves and going to church into actually using the day as an ordinary holiday. We were never given the true light about it,” another Seshego youth Peter Mogale said.

He also mentioned that if this generation were taught about Easter from an early age, they would not be celebrating it the way they do.

Pastor Mmathapi Selema of Mystery of Jesus Christ Ministry believes that if the government had not removed bible lessons from schools, youth would know the meaning of Easter.

“Some of them do not have a Christian background and knowledge and that is why they seem to have lost the concept of Easter. I think the truth is that they never really knew,” she added.

Selema concluded by saying youth should know that this is not an ordinary day but rather a day to remember the cross, the grave and how Jesus defeated all that.
