POLOKWANE – Twenty five hectares of land in Polokwane was handed over by the Limpopo Provincial Government to Senza Contractors on Monday (May 29) for the construction of a state-of-the-art Quaternary hospital.

Limpopo premier Chupu Mathabatha officiated the technical handover in the presence of provincial stakeholders including the Polokwane Municipality, Ward 20 Councilor Phaka Murwa, Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba and Treasury MEC Seaparo Sekoati among others.

The hospital is set to be constructed near near Edupark and the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex in Webster Street over the next five years.

The implementation phase of the R4b project has been lagging behind for over nine years with Mathabatha first announcing it in 2015 and in many state of the province addresses since then with no progress going forward.

He announced that the central academic hospital is set to benefit not only locals but the SADC region with an estimated 2 000 jobs set to be created during the construction phase.

Meanwhile, Ramathuba says the Department of Health is delighted to welcome quaternary health care in Limpopo and believes this will attract specialists of various kinds.
