More water woes as Olifanstpoort Plant is stopped again
A temporary halt of operations at the Olifantspoort Plant is set to put even more strain on water supply to the city of Polokwane.
POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality is urging residents who are receiving water supply to use it sparingly and responsibly as more water shortages are on the cards for the city.
Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) has temporarily halted operations at the Olifantspoort Plant and all outstations due to a malfunction with the high-lift pump’s delivery valve, says municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala.
He added that the replacement of the faulty valve is underway and is expected to be completed by 16:00 today (March 20).
“Water supply will be restored upon completion, however, it may take some time for the flow to reach all areas within the Polokwane Municipality. This interruption comes at a time when the municipality is facing water shortages due to high temperatures, while reservoirs are still in the process of replenishing,” he said.
The temporary shutdown of the Olifantspoort Plant will impact all areas of supply.
“While the municipality and LNW work diligently to restore full water supply, the municipality will continue to monitor areas experiencing shortages and provide temporary relief of supply to affected areas,” Selala’s statement concluded.
