Deputy Minister inspects progress on Siloam Hospital

The hospital will cater to nearly 300 villages under the Makhado and Thulamela municipalities and is expected to be completed in 2026.

LIMPOPO – The Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Pinky Kekana visited the new, multi-billion rand construction of the Siloam Hospital on Friday.

The hospital caters to nearly 300 villages under the two municipalities, Makhado and Thulamela.

Kekana said the main purpose of her visit was to see the progress made. Kekana also gave details to the leaders on how the hospital will function.

“I would like to thank the construction team and express our appreciation to the highly professional project managers, architects, quantity surveyors and consulting engineering firms, as well as the many local, national and international sub-contractors and suppliers, for their hard work and exacting standards in bringing this large construction project to fruition,” Kekana said.

The hospital is expected to be completed in 2026, construction started in 2022.

The services to be offered at the new hospital include Paediatric ICU and high care; psychiatric ward, mortuary, surgical, obstetrics and infectious disease.

The project was launched by former president Jacob Zuma nine years ago.

The senior traditional leader, Mailosumbwa, Kennedy Tshivhase thanked all those involved in the project.

“I want to say we really appreciate the progress made with the construction of this hospital. This is not only going to help in taking care of our health, but also in terms of poverty alleviation,” Tshivhase said.

“From now on we will be proud that Siloam Hospital is our hospital because it is state-of-the-art. Hopefully, the service will also improve, and we hope the hospital will have better facilities so that patients will not have to be transferred to other hospitals for procedures.”
