Young soccer star’s body found in bushes outside Thohoyandou

According to the deceased’s brother-in-law, Nnditsheni Matsheketsheke, Mudau went missing on Monday February 12 and was found three weeks later.

LIMPOPO – The Mudau family from Mbahe Tshilatshe village outside Thohoyandou in the Vhembe district, is distressed after their son Morricheal Mudau (32), a soccer star’s, lifeless body was discovered in the bushes in Vondwe village.

The family said they are left with many questions on what happened to him.

According to the deceased’s brother-in-law, Nnditsheni Matsheketsheke, Mudau went missing on Monday February 12, and was found three weeks later on Wednesday February 28.

“The day he went missing, no one was at home, as his mother was at the hospital for checkups, he did not inform anyone where he was going. We were surprised when he didn’t come home, as he always slept at home, that is when we suspected something was wrong. We went into his room and found his cellphone,” Matsheketsheke said.

He said they reported him missing and the community started to search.

“After a few weeks, I received a call from home, telling me that two cow herders were saying they found a dead boy in Vondwe forest. As a family, we are confused because we searched that area and did not find him. We are now waiting for the postmortem results, to give us more answers,” he said.

He told CV that when they found him, his face was unrecognisable, we had to wait for DNA results to confirm that it was him before we could bury him. We received the results on Monday March 11 and we are busy arranging the funeral.

He further said he would want people to remember his brother-in-law as someone who loved to play soccer and make music.

Vhembe police spokesperson WO Vuledzani Dathi said an inquest case docket has been registered at the Thohoyandou SAPS, pending the postmortem results. Anyone who can assist the police with information can contact the investigating officer Sergt Makhuvha at 082 469 1397. Police investigations continue,” Dathi said.
