Digital hub in Seshego has the potential to make a difference
Economic Development MEC, Rodgers Monama assured that the hub has the potential to expand skills in the community and attract investors.
POLOKWANE – Only if put to good use, rising unemployment affecting locals can be reduced significantly through a digital hub right in the heart of Seshego’s industrial area that was once a hive of job opportunities.
This is the view of young entrepreneurs who were in attendance last Friday when Limpopo Connexion (LCX), a subsidiary of Limpopo Economic Development Agency (Leda), including Economic Development MEC, Rodgers Monama hosted them for an awareness session about the hub.
Monama said all those with business ideas that require infrastructure, equipment or resources will have the opportunity to receive assistance from Leda.
“It will serve as a training centre for community members; provide access to information and communication technology facilities and enable incubation for mainly young entrepreneurs,” he explained.
It also seemed the project was still a work in progress, with only the first coat of paint on most walls. Monama in his budget vote last week said completion is set for the end of this calendar year.
An internet cafe owner, Tim Maredi said the hub would help him create jobs, “only if equality is held to the highest standard”.
“My internet cafe currently has a limited offering of services and I know how we can expand and train others on how they can start their own. But I worry about whether this brilliant idea will come to fruition accurately with fair opportunities for those who are deserving and capable,” he remarked.
Monama, in his keynote address, assured those present that the hub has the potential to expand skills in the community and attract investors.
