Two men appear for murder of Giyani CPF member (83)

Police say the evidence collected pointed to the elderly man's relatives who were found with his belongings at the time of their arrest.

LIMPOPO – The two men arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of a close relative and Community Policing Forum (CPF) patroller appeared before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The 22 and 32-year-old were arrested after the victim was brutally murdered after completing his duties in the early hours of March 28 in Shamfana village.

“The elderly man was on his way home from fulfilling his responsibilities as a vigilant CPF member when he was ambushed and fatally attacked. Police and emergency services were called to the scene where they found the victim’s body lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds. He was certified dead at the scene,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.

He added that preliminary police investigations and the evidence collected pointed to the two suspects.

“All the items taken from deceased were recovered leading to the arrest of the 22-year-old suspect, who was charged with murder and his immediate relative (32) was charged with defeating the end of justice,” Ledwaba said.

The duo will next appear on April 9 for a formal bail application and for further police investigations to take place.
