POLOKWANE – Life begins at 50 and Judith Mariri’s journey began with flour, sugar and a dream. From baking for joy to baking for profit, she proves that age is no obstacle to entrepreneurship.

Retired at 50, Judith started her business by baking cakes, bread and pizza and is accredited in Food Bev (Bread and Flour) under TP Dynamic Engineering Services.

The Jane Furse native who currently resides in Bendor, used her pension to support her business and she has now expanded it to sewing items as well.

A teacher by profession, Judith says she likes to share her skills with other people in order for them to establish themselves.

She currently has two assistants and hopes to employ more people in the future to assist with her other ventures.

Judith said she started sewing bags because she wanted to let her sewing skills take center stage.

“I buy soft leather and other accessories from a fabric shop in order to make and design my own bags,” she told the Polokwane Observer.

“I use social media to advertise my business and my TikTok account is more active than any other social media platforms that I have,” she added.

One of her main challenges is time as she has many ventures to manage but she stressed the importance of having several streams of income due to the high cost of living.
