Mob justice incident outside Lebowakgomo leaves one dead

The victim of a mob justice incident outside Lebowakgomo was found in a yard with multiple injuries and his hands were tied with wire.

POLOKWANE – An immediate probe into the murder of an unknown man during a mob justice incident in Matsepeng, Mamaolo outside Lebowakgomo has been ordered by the provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said they were alerted to the incident on Monday (April 8) and discovered the victim in a yard in the area upon arrival.

“The victim was found with multiple injuries and his hands were tied with wire. The police untied him, and he was swiftly transported to the closest hospital for medical attention, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” Ledwaba said.

He added that a case of murder has been opened.

“Vigilantism is strongly condemned. No person may assault or kill a person if they suspect that the person might be guilty of a crime. Thus, we kindly ask communities to abstain from it. Those who do so will face severe consequences from the law,” Hadebe said.

Anyone with information that can assist the police in their investigation can contact the Investigating Officer Sergeant Millet Lotoaba on 072 576 0974, the crime stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or the MySAPSApp.
