POLOKWANE – ‘Show your pride, Limpopo’
It’s time for the second annual Limpopo Pride march set to take place on May 11.
The march will start from SABC Park and head to the Polokwane Police Station.
Founded by Judith ‘Jay’ Leshabane, Limpopo Pride aims to promote self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersexual community.
Kagiso Mokoena, the marketing director explained that the significance of celebrating pride is to bring LGBTQIA+ together in unity for the pride of their sexuality.
Limpopo Pride hosted their first annual march last year with a huge turnout.
“The response to plans for this year’s march has been fairly positive and we anticipate a bigger turnout than last year. This year, we have parents involved to provide motivational talks as well as representatives from various departments,” she said.
This year, they also have two main motivators who will be part of the celebrations and who are also proud members of the LGBTQIA+ community, namely Nomsa Buthelezi-Shezi, popularly known as Gomora Diva and Smonamonane.
“It is an honour to have the motivators not only because they are part of our community and are well-known, but because of the confidence they have in our community and how they hold our flag high. They are not ashamed of their sexuality,” she added.
