Thirteen dead in R521 head-on collision
A lack of visibility has been cited as the cause of a head-on collision that left 13 people dead on the R521 early on Tuesday morning (May 28).
POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has confirmed that 13 people died on the scene of a head-on collision on the R521 earlier this morning.
Two drivers and eleven passengers died when a heavy motor vehicle collided head-on with a taxi.

Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene says a lack of clear visibility has been cited as the possible cause of the incident as it was misty at the time.

The MEC Florence Radzilani has engaged with the bereaved families, who had come to the scene, and relayed messages of condolences on behalf of the provincial government.
Radzilani has called on all motorists to take extra precaution as they travel, especially during early hours of the morning.
The R521 remains closed to and from Polokwane and motorists are urged to use alternative routes.
