Jabez blooms with compassion

Jabez Christian Academy's flower-themed day brings joy and kindness with flowers brought for the staff and patients of the frail care unit of Ons Tuiste.

POLOKWANE – Jabez Christian Academy hosted an ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful Day’ last Friday, and learners were allowed to attend school in their civvies.

Every learner brought a flower to their register class, where they sat down to make a bouquet, and the class with the best bouquet was allowed to swim after break.

“If you think your class is going to win, bring your swimwear and a towel,” Jabez principal Dr Elana Erasmus encouraged learners.

Gardening and landscaping gurus Annette Snyman and Adrienne de Wit were the judges and after a rigorous adjudication, announced the Gr 3s as the winners, with the Gr 6 and Gr 11 classes in second and third place, respectively.

The Gr 12s did not take on the challenge because they were busy with their prelims, Erasmus noted.

The judges said that they were impressed by the variety of flowers.

After the event, the bouquets were delivered to the frail care unit of Our Home/Ons Tuiste and to the nurses’ station at Mediclinic Limpopo.

“We wanted to show our gratitude to the hard workers at the hospital. Patients get flowers in abundance but we seldom think about the workers,” Erasmus said.

The fundraising for the day was for Polokwane House and each learner contributed R10.
