Kruinies go beyond donations with TLC ward initiative

Curro Heuwelkruin learners, led by Ntsako Serote, bring comfort and joy to cancer patients through storytelling and book donations.

POLOKWANE – As part of the Curro Heuwelkruin Ambassadors programme, learners are encouraged to give back to the community, and Ntsako Serote, along with his friends, took a unique approach.

Rather than simply dropping off donations, the group decided to connect directly with those they were helping.

Learners visited the Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) ward at Pietersburg Provincial Hospital, where they spent time reading stories to patients.

In addition to this meaningful interaction, they collected clothes and books for the ward.

“We wanted to go beyond just delivering donations,” Ntsako explained. The group also partnered with Jacana Media, a publishing company, to provide books in the children’s mother tongue, ensuring that the donated books would be culturally relevant and comforting for patients.
