Township entrepreneurs explore opportunities at workshop

MOKOPANE – The Township Economy Alliance (TEA) hosted its Female Economy Workshop and Expo on October 12, bringing together women entrepreneurs, industry experts, and local business leaders to explore opportunities within the township economy.

Lebogang Mildred Moloto, founder of The Real Makoya Cleaning Chemicals, shared her journey of building a successful cleaning product line. Itumeleng Bridget Mahwete, CEO of Nakedi Poultry Farm, discussed both the challenges and triumphs of running her poultry business.
Lizzy Mogale stressed the importance of women supporting one another in entrepreneurship, while Ciko Thomas from Nedbank highlighted the necessity of financial support and partnerships for small businesses.
A special segment of the event, the Mbawula Chat, featured Dipuo Zulu, a local philanthropist and founder of Consciously Becoming, who inspired attendees to unlock their potential and identify personal opportunities.

Exhibitors showcased a variety of products, including fashion, beauty items, and artisanal crafts. Notable participants included Na-Lady Designs by Naledi Thole, InnerRoots Essential by Amu Shivuri, Ttry Fashion and Beauty Boutique by Tshilidzi Mashamba, and Smart Detergents by Thabitha Kgopa.
One of the most anticipated parts of the event was the TEA Kasi Pitching Challenge, where entrepreneurs presented their business ideas to a panel of judges.
Among the participants were HealthFirst Private Clinic, represented by Tumelo Lekoloane, and Bright Experts, with Petunia Masenya.
The standout winner was Princess Nthabiseng Baloyi, who received R50 000 for her successful business, MM B’s Chicken Farm and Hatchery.

Nthabiseng’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2021, inspired by her brother’s mentorship and the need to introduce chicken farming to her village.
TEA spokesperson Zintle Dingilizwe praised Nthabiseng’s dedication, noting that her farm supplies chickens, creates jobs, and empowers young people in Mokopane.
Nthabiseng shared plans to expand her operations by building a larger chicken house to meet growing demand, emphasising her commitment to organic farming.
Zintle concluded that the workshop left participants believing that perseverance can hatch success in any venture.
