2 more arrested in Skeem Saam actor’s crypto scam case

Sebasa Mogale and his accomplices advertised the crypto concept 'Mining City' on a national broadcaster, which offered investors interest off a variety of packages.

POLOKWANE – Further police investigations are underway into two alleged accomplices and their possible involvement, in what was described as a cryptocurrency scam involving radio and television star, Sebasa Mogale.

The commercial crime investigations unit last week arrested Mpho Dagada (30) and Emily Rabokale (47) on fraud charges emanating from the scam and the two appeared before the Polokwane Specialised Crime Court on Friday.

Both were remanded in custody for a formal bail application.

Mogale (52) and his wife, Dorah (44) were earlier arrested and charged with fraud. They were released on R10 000 bail, while police investigations continue.

According to information supplied by Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Hlulani Mashaba, Mogale and his accomplices advertised the crypto concept ‘Mining City’ on a national broadcaster, which offered investors the opportunity to reap interest off a variety of packages.

“Some interested investors were told to visit an office in Landdros Maré Street and were given reference numbers to deposit the money. Once they returned to the office, they were given email addresses and log-in details for them to have access to their investments.”

According to Mashaba, investors were told to wait for a period of six months before withdrawing any funds, so as to accrue higher interest amounts.

“Apparently, the problem started when the investors wanted to withdraw their money and realised that the information provided to them in terms of login details and so forth, had been blocked. When they enquired, they were told that the concept had collapsed due to the inflation rate. Once they went back to the offices, they found this to be vacant,” Mashaba said.

Around May 2022, more than 10 cases had been registered against the suspects, between the Polokwane and Mokopane police stations.
