Mapungubwe Theatre Festival wows in Limpopo

The Mapungubwe Theatre Festival is on a high note, with Get Down Productions and Mahuma Group delivering outstanding performances.

POLOKWANE – Get Down Productions and Mahuma Group ensured some great entertainment as they recently filled up both nights for the Mapungubwe Theatre Festival.

The festival saw the play, ‘What If’, written, directed and produced by Matome Rapetsoa, and ‘Beyond’, written by Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa, co-written, directed, and produced by Matome Rapetsoa.

According to marketing coordinator Darren van Rensburg, this was a sign that there is a need for theatre in the province.

“We took part in the Mapungubwe Theatre Festival because it is the beacon of arts in the province. We decided to produce both plays as we discussed the social ills we face as a community, the country, and the world. It is the 16 days of Activism Against Women and Children, as well as World Aids Day in December, and we used those themes as we specialise in tailormade plays among other projects.”

He said they received a standing ovation for both shows. “We managed to watch other theatre groups which were amazing and it shows Limpopo has talent and our future is bright as a province. We made sure to make a lasting impact on our audiences, as they enjoyed it tremendously.”

He told BONUS that Get Down Productions in partnership with the National Department of Health performs in Lephalale at the Marapong Sports Grounds as they continue with their World Aids Day Campaign.

“There’s a lot you can expect from us in the coming year. We are about to take over the theatre space and continue making changes.”
