Sapa Yopa hosts gala dinner in Polokwane
Acting Polokwane Mayor Nomonde Shivambu hailed Sapa Yopa's 16th annual rally, citing its economic benefits and social responsibility initiatives.
POLOKWANE – Acting Polokwane Mayor, Nomonde Shivambu said Sapa Yopa’s 16th annual rally was built on a legacy of passion and a shared love for motorcycles.
She spoke a the 16th Annual Sapa Yopa Gala Dinner, themed black and gold and held at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World recently.
“It is an honour for the Polokwane Municipality to be chosen annually as the host city for the Sapa Yopa Rally and associated activities. Our residents bear witness to thousands of bikers roaring into our vibrant city. The decision to host it here is a testament to the warm hospitality and vibrant culture of Polokwane. We are committed to ensuring that your stay is memorable and enjoyable. Our city offers a diverse range of attractions, from stunning natural landscapes to world-class entertainment,” said Nomonde.
She said Sapa Yopa Rally is one of the catalysts of economic development that helps the city’s hospitality and business across the value chain.
“Social activities such as the Sapa Yopa rally keep the tourism industry on a lifeline because for the rest of the weekend our hotels, restaurants, fuel stations and other amenities were fully booked and engaged. This contributes to job creation because it is only when these facilities are active that the local economy can flourish and create jobs that are much needed by our communities,” she said.
She further said she is particularly impressed by the initiatives undertaken by Sapa Yopa, such as the mass drive campaign against drugs and gangsterism.
“This demonstrates your commitment to social responsibility and community upliftment. As we welcome you to Polokwane, I encourage you to explore our city to the fullest, indulge in our local cuisine, and experience the warmth of our people,” she added.
Sapa Yopa MCC president, Antonio Pico Santana Martins, said whenever Sapa Yopa MCC pronounced, the crowds would follow.
“During the annual general meeting when they elected me as president of Sapa Yopa, I was mandated to assure that standards remain the same and bring back the vibe of Sapa Yopa. We tried the waters at our first big event in Gauteng and with the support of our exco we managed to pull the crowds. It is a tradition of Sapa Yopa that when we start the rally, we must first host a gala dinner to welcome bikers from all corners of the continent,” said Martins.
