Polatla City triumphs at Junior Ramusi games

POLOKWANE – Polatla City Wonderous emerged victorious at the Sekgweng Junior Ramusi Community Games, defeating Mamolamusi Swallows 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the Mangata BlueWays Sports Ground. Their triumph earned them a R50 000 cash prize and gold medals, while Swallows took home R30 000 and silver medals.

Bacharoma Monate FC and Masakhane FC also shared the spotlight, each receiving R10 000 as recognition.

The tournament drew thousands of spectators, with fans cheering on their favourite teams.

According to Lot Ramusi, the tournament organiser, the Sekgweng Junior Ramusi Community Games are more than just a sporting event – they are a vehicle for empowering rural communities.

“Every year, the entire village gathers at Mangata BlueWays Sports Ground to take advantage of the economic opportunities the event provides,” Ramusi said.

“This is a chance for people to earn a living during the festive season while enjoying competitive, community-based football. The tournament also honours Sekgweng Junior Ramusi, a renowned sports administrator and philanthropist, making it a meaningful partnership with the community.”

He also reflected on the personal significance of the event.

“When my late grandfather, Collins Molapatene Ramusi, went into exile, the community of Botlokwa stood by us, donating food and essentials during those tough times. Giving back through this event is deeply fulfilling,” he said.

This year’s event was a huge success, drawing an estimated 15 000 spectators.

“It was a professionally organised event, thanks to our stakeholders, sponsors, and partners. We had doctors, ambulance services and security personnel on site, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. The competitive spirit of the teams added to the excitement, and even professional scouts were present, offering some players a chance to trial with PSL teams.”
