Polokwane Apostle shares the importance of Christmas day

Apostle Bridget Hawkins reflects on the evolving Christmas celebrations, emphasising the need to return to its roots.

POLOKWANE – Christmas is an annual festive holiday celebrated on December 25, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. However, people have different perspectives on how to celebrate it, primarily due to their religious beliefs.

Apostle Bridget Hawkins shares her thoughts on the importance of celebrating Christmas Day as a Christian. She observes that modern Christmas celebrations differ significantly from those of the past.

Gone are the days when most families would go to church together, have a meal afterwards, and exchange gifts, although some still maintain these traditions.

According to Apostle Hawkins, many people today have adopted a new way of celebrating Christmas, often because they do not fully understand the reason behind the holiday. “People nowadays are celebrating Christmas by drinking alcohol and going to entertainment venues, and they no longer prioritize attending church,” she noted.

“I believe it also depends on how individuals choose to treat Christmas. For me, I still go to church on Christmas Day and celebrate there,” Hawkins remarked.
