Polokwane actor chasing big screen dreams

Tshegofatso Thapedi's love for acting began with community plays, now, he's setting his sights on South Africa's top soapies.

POLOKWANE – The 23-year-old Tshegofatso Thapedi, born in Polokwane, is determined to make his dreams in the acting industry a reality.

From a young age, he aspired to appear on the big screen. “Growing up, I was heavily influenced by movies and theatre plays and dreamt of becoming a professional actor, especially starring in major soapies,” he said.

Thapedi credits community plays with nurturing his love for acting.

“I believe if you want to achieve something, you need to surround yourself with people who have already achieved it as they’ll inspire and motivate you,” he said.

One of his biggest aspirations is to secure a role in the popular soap opera Skeem Saam.

“I’ve always loved the show and found inspiration from actors like Africa Tsoai and Clement Maosa.”

Beyond acting, Thapedi is passionate about writing screenplays and poetry, painting, playing video games, and attending church.

Having already landed some roles in the industry, Thapedi remains optimistic about his future in acting and looks forward to seizing more opportunities.
