Limpopo’s rising fashion entrepreneur behind the apparel

Young fashion designer Maanda Masala combines his industrial engineering background with design to create a successful brand.

LIMPOPO – Maanda Masala, a young fashion designer from Madombidzha, is carving a niche for himself in the competitive clothing design industry.

What began as a small venture during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 has now grown into a thriving business under the name S7FW Apparel.

Though an industrial engineer by training, Masala’s passion for fashion emerged during his school years at Muthuhadini Combined School.

After earning his degree from the Vaal University of Technology, he combined his engineering expertise with his love for design to launch his clothing brand.

Masala’s journey into fashion began with personal styling advice for friends and experimenting with fabrics and colours.

Encouraged by his family and friends, his talent quickly gained recognition.

“I sold to acquaintances and strangers, and our brand grew,” he told CV. His unique taste in style became so popular that his friends coined the name ‘S7FW’ for his designs.

Using his engineering background, Masala optimised production processes, starting with simple yet impactful items such as tracksuits and masks. “My industrial engineering skills allowed me to drive innovation and streamline production, which helped me establish S7FW Apparel,” he said.

Masala also sees great potential in the Vhembe district, saying there is untapped talent in local fashion schools. “Many graduates here have the skills but lack opportunities. My advice is to start small, have a clear vision, and create your own opportunities,” he said.

His message to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: “Take a chance, push harder, and transform your life. Don’t wait for opportunities, instead, create them.”
