Limpopo man faces murder charges in court
Tebogo Maboa appears in court for murder charges, accused of killing 59-year-old man in Sebayeng with five others.
POLOKWANE – Tebogo ‘Lepai’ Maboa (22) appeared before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges relating to murder.
Maboa is accused of being involved in the killing of a 59-year-old man in Sebayeng in July, along with five other suspects, including one man and three women.
Four of the suspects were arrested in December, while Maboa had been on the run until his capture in Gauteng earlier this week.
The suspects are said to have demanded money from their victim, who had recently received a lump sum from an accident fund.
When the victim failed to comply, he was reportedly strangled, and the suspects fled the scene on foot.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the details of the case.
The four arrested suspects include Wilson Mashao Malatji (24), Tebatso Mahakwana (23), Flora Mabitsela (39), and Kate Maboa (41), the mother of the 22-year-old suspect, who also appeared in court earlier on charges related to the murder.
In a separate case, a 42-year-old man faces charges of rape stemming from an incident on January 15.
His name has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim. The case was heard at the Seshego Magistrate’s Court, and the suspect is expected to appear for a bail hearing next week.
According to preliminary investigations, a 20-year-old woman was raped inside a vehicle. The victim reported the incident immediately after being released, and the suspect was arrested two days later while working in Seshego.
His bail hearing is set for next week.
