Addicts Voice brings hope to Mokopane
Addicts Voice inspires hope through faith-based street outreach, school visits, and powerful stories of addiction recovery and transformation.
MOKOPANE – “At the beginning of each year, we fast, pray and strategise,” says Evette Kruger, the founder of Addicts Voice, a non-profit organisation rooted in street ministry. “But this year, the Lord told me: ‘Do not plan, I will show you.’ And in blind obedience, we trusted.”
Kruger, who has been active in street outreach for six years, explains the heart behind the organisation: “Drug rehabilitation is expensive, and sadly, nearly every family is touched by addiction.”
Fuelled by compassion and faith, the Addicts Voice team began 2024 with outreach in Mokopane, forging impactful partnerships with local organisations and individuals for their #streetrehabilitation initiative.
“We set a pillar of fire in town,” Kruger says, expressing gratitude to volunteers including the Mokopane Girls, Onthene Diedericks, Hendriëtte Williams, Shenise Williams and Anuscha Kruger.
Their work recently extended into area schools, where team members shared their personal journeys of addiction and recovery, inspiring learners to speak up and break their silence.
“We are in awe of what God is doing. Our hearts beat for the streets, to restore dignity, offer hope and break the chains of addiction,” Kruger remarked.
A testimony to this mission is Christiaan Geyer’s story. Trapped in addiction for nearly a decade, Christiaan hit rock bottom after losing his job and hope.
“I am blessed to say today, that God saved my life. I was caught up in this neverending cycle of addiction for a little under 10 years. I went from being someone to being a nobody very quickly. I pushed those close to me away with only one thing on my mind, and that was drugs. I lost myself in addiction and had nowhere to go,” he said.
“In desperation and sincerity I gave over to God, my exact words were, ‘God, I don’t know what the future holds for me but I am scared. Please just don’t let me go’. I am blessed to say I have turned away from drugs with no desire to use again. That moment of surrender marked his turning point. Now, two years and six months clean, Christiaan says, “I’m blessed, changed, and forever grateful.”
