LIMPOPO – The death toll from Thursday’s collision on the R101 between Mokopane and Mookgopong has climbed to nine after two more inmates succumbed to their injuries.

The victims were among those admitted to hospital following the collision between a police vehicle transporting inmates and a truck on August 14.

Police confirmed on Friday that the two men had died from injuries sustained in the accident, raising the death toll to eight inmates and one police officer.

Several other inmates remain in hospital under medical care.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe extended her condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and wished the injured a full recovery.

She further emphasised that the SAPS is committed to a comprehensive investigation.
