Polokwane hosts Eskom Capricorn Expo for Young Scientists 2025
The Eskom Capricorn Science Expo saw learners present projects in 13 categories, with top entries heading to the national stage.
POLOKWANE – Hundreds of learners from schools across the region showcased their innovative research projects during the two-day regional Eskom Capricorn Expo for Young Scientists, held on August 15-16 at the Jack Botes Hall.
The Capricorn District Municipality (CDM), in partnership with Eskom, hosted learners from across the Capricorn region who presented their creativity and innovation across 13 categories.

The hall was filled with a variety of projects, which learners set up and presented to the judging panel.
Eskom Expo for Young Scientists’ provincial coordinator for Limpopo, Dr Sure Mupezeni, highlighted the significance of the event.

“The best nine projects selected here will represent the district at the national finals in September. These learners are talented, intelligent and skilled. This programme is dedicated to teaching learners through positive experiences to help them succeed in the world of science.”
He added that the programme aims to nurture responsible and independent young scientists and creative thinkers who respect themselves and others while appreciating diversity.
“It encourages innovative solutions to real-world challenges facing South Africa.”
Local schools also participated as observers. Enderun Colleges Polokwane brought learners to explore the science expo ahead of their own science fair, which was successfully held at their school on August 22.
“Thank you to all the schools, teachers and visitors who contributed to the success of this science expo. It wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s participation,” Mupezeni said.
