Thohoyandou house fire claims lives of 3 children

Limpopo police are investigating possible negligence after three children, aged 2 to 4, died in a house fire.

LIMPOPO – Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has expressed deep shock following a tragic incident in which three children, aged between two and four, died after a house fire in Itsani village on Friday (August 29).

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says that police on duty received a report about a burning house with children trapped inside. Emergency services rushed to the scene, where fire brigades were battling the blaze.

Once the fire was extinguished, authorities discovered that three children had been burned beyond recognition.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the children had been playing near the one-room house, but it remains unclear how they ended up inside before the fire broke out. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined,” says Ledwaba.

Hadebe has directed that fire and forensic experts be brought in to assist with the investigation. She has also instructed police to explore the possibility of charging the parents or guardians for negligence or failure to care for minors, pending the outcome of investigations.

Police confirmed that investigations into the incident are continuing.
