N1 near Mokopane remains closed after crash involving flammable liquids

Emergency services are on the scene of a collision on the N1 near Mokopane that has resulted in the closure of the road in both directions.

POLOKWANE – The N1 North and Southbound near the Sebetiela Weighbridge and Mokopane Traffic Control Centre remains closed following an earlier collision involving two trucks and a light delivery vehicle.

The Limpopo Department of Transport says emergency services are on the scene and recovery is underway as one of the trucks was transporting flammable liquids, which poses a potential hazard.

Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said no casualties have been reported.

Motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes to avoid significant traffic delays:

  • For traffic from Mookgophong to Polokwane:

Motorists should off-ramp at the Nylplaza tollgate or use the R101 through Mokopane.

  • For traffic from Polokwane towards Mookgophong/Gauteng:

Motorists should off-ramp at the Sebetiela tollgate or use the R101 through Mokopane.

“Drivers are urged to be patient and to drive with caution. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” she says.
