Thousands expected in Limpopo for ZCC conference: Here’s the traffic plan

Traffic officers have been deployed across Limpopo as thousands of pilgrims make their way to Zion City, Moria, for the ZCC New Year conference.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety says it is fully prepared to manage the influx of travellers for the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) New Year consecration conference, which takes place in Moria City outside Polokwane from September 4 to 10.

The annual conference is expected to draw thousands of worshipers from across South Africa and neighbouring countries.

The transport spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene said traffic law enforcement officers have been deployed along the following major routes and intersections:

  • N1
  • N11
  • R101
  • R81
  • R71
  • R579
  • R37
  • R36
  • R40
  • R528
  • R574
  • R516
  • R521
  • D4040
  • D19
  • R524
  • R523.

“Law enforcement operations will maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards reckless behaviour, such as speeding, overloading, drunk driving, and the use of unroadworthy vehicles,” Chuene said.

She added that motorists are urged to ensure vehicles are roadworthy, all passengers wear seatbelts and drivers avoid fatigue and cellphone use.

The Transport and Community Safety MEC, Violet Mathye, welcomed pilgrims to Limpopo.

“As we come together for these important gatherings, I appeal to all road users, whether visiting from afar or travelling within Limpopo, to make safety their top priority,” Mathye said.

“Please drive with patience, care and respect for others. Avoid fatigue, speeding and overloading, which remain among the leading causes of crashes. On behalf of the Provincial Government, I wish you safe travels, a peaceful stay and a safe return home.”
