Polokwane plans 48-hour water shutdowns for September

Polokwane residents warned of water shutdowns in September and October as upgrades to Olifantspoort pumping stations continue.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality has announced a series of planned 48-hour shutdowns on the Olifantspoort Scheme as Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) continues with the second phase of connecting and commissioning upgraded pumping stations.

Thipa Selala, the spokesperson for the municipality, says the shutdowns are critical interventions to improve the efficiency, reliability and long-term sustainability of the water supply system.

The shutdowns are scheduled as follows:

Olifantspoort Pump Station 1:
  • Wednesday to Thursday, September 10–11 .
  • Wednesday to Thursday, September 17–18.
Olifantspoort Pump Station 2:
  • Wednesday to Thursday, October 01–02.

The affected areas include:

  • Ga-Chuene.
  • Maja.
  • Thokgwaneng.
  • Seshego.
  • the city of Polokwane.

LNW confirmed that further phases of work will continue during October, but says that shutdowns are expected to last less than 48 hours.

The municipality has urged all affected residents to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly during the planned shutdowns.

Residents can report water-related issues via the MyPolokwane Citizen App, by calling the Water and Sanitation Call Centre on 015 290 2376, or by sending a WhatsApp message to 068 290 8736.
