UPDATE: ANCYL demands justice after Nkateko Mbhoma killing

ANCYL mourns Limpopo PEC member Nkateko Mbhoma, condemning violent crime and urging police to arrest those responsible.

POLOKWANE – The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has confirmed with “deep shock and sadness” the death of Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee PEC member Nkateko Mbhoma, who was fatally shot this morning (Tuesday, September 9).

Mbhoma was reportedly travelling through Leeudoringstad, outside Klerksdorp, on his way to Kimberley for the league’s 2nd National General Council when he was shot.

In a statement, the ANCYL described his killing as “a senseless act of violence” that had robbed the movement of “a committed young leader who dedicated his life to the struggle for youth emancipation and the advancement of our people.”

The organisation extended condolences to Mbhoma’s family, comrades, and the Limpopo structures of the Youth League, calling for “strength and comfort during this painful period.”

The Youth League also condemned the ongoing scourge of violent crime in South Africa and urged law enforcement to act swiftly.

“Criminality has no place in our society, and we call on law enforcement agencies to act with urgency to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and face the full might of the law. Justice must prevail,” the statement reads.

The ANCYL reiterated its commitment to safer communities and the protection of young leaders serving the nation.

“May the soul of Cde Nkateko rest in eternal peace,” the statement concluded.
