Police probe triple shooting at Burgersfort station

Police are investigating a triple shooting at Burgersfort Police Station that left two people dead and one woman critically injured.

LIMPOPO – An intensive manhunt has been launched following a shocking shooting that took place early this morning (Sunday, September 14), within the premises of the Burgersfort Police Station in the Sekhukhune District.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says officers on duty heard several gunshots coming from the station yard.

When they went to investigate, they discovered a 28-year-old woman lying near two vehicles with gunshot wounds. Nearby, they found her husband, a 31-year-old man, with a fatal gunshot wound, and a 39-year-old woman who had also been shot.

Paramedics were called to the scene and declared the 31-year-old man and the 39-year-old woman dead. The 28-year-old woman was transported to hospital, where she is receiving medical care.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased man and the injured woman were married, and it is suspected that he may have turned the gun on himself after the shooting. Police are also probing the circumstances surrounding the presence of the 39-year-old woman at the scene.”

A firearm, ammunition, and several spent cartridges were recovered during the investigation.

Cases of murder, attempted murder, and an inquest have been opened.

Provincial police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe expressed deep shock over the incident and has ordered investigators to prioritise the case to establish the full details of what transpired.

Police investigations are ongoing.
