Taxi owners halt Leeto La Polokwane services over grievances

Taxi shareholders blocked Leeto La Polokwane buses in Polokwane, halting operations until management responds to their grievances.

POLOKWANE – Shareholders of the Leeto La Polokwane (LLP) bus service, represented by taxi operators and owners, brought operations to a standstill today after blocking buses from leaving the depot in Ladine.

A fleet of taxis parked outside the depot prevented buses from operating, as shareholders raised grievances they say have gone unresolved for too long.

Taxi shareholders blocked Leeto La Polokwane buses from leaving the depot in Ladine, suspending services for Polokwane commuters.

At 11:00, representatives of the shareholders and LLP management met to discuss issues that include reduced dividends, the dismissal of 16 drivers, and the registration of the operating company Esilux with 10 directors, reportedly excluding beneficiaries from areas the service caters for — including Seshego, Flora Park, and parts of Westenburg.

The Seshego-Polokwane Taxi Association spokesperson, Ally Mothiba, said an ultimatum had been issued: operations would not resume until management addressed their concerns.

“Otherwise, these buses will not operate,” he warned, adding that management undertook to respond by Friday.

In a statement, LLP confirmed the temporary suspension of bus services, citing “unforeseen circumstances.”

The statement urged passengers to exercise patience and make alternative travel arrangements.

“The City of Polokwane is actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure resumption of normal bus operations,” the company said.
