2 Arrested in Mankweng operation after violent incidents

Mankweng police arrest two suspects in linked operations, a 37-year-old wanted for rape and 30-year-old for a separate burglary.

POLOKWANE – Mankweng Detectives, working with the Task Team, have arrested a 37-year-old man wanted for rape and armed robbery in Nobody, Ga-Mothiba, Morokolong.

The arrest relates to an incident on Wednesday, September 3, when a 39-year-old woman was attacked on her way to work.

Police reports indicate that the suspect threatened her with a firearm, robbed her of her cellphone and money, and then forced her to a nearby mountain where he raped her before fleeing. The victim immediately reported the matter, and a case of rape and robbery was opened.

Following intelligence gathering, police were able to trace and positively identify the suspect, leading to his arrest.

During the same operation, officers also arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a separate burglary at Moremadi Park, where groceries and household items had been stolen.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of rape, robbery with a firearm, and residential burglary.
