Ready or not: Polokwane Grade 12’s reflect ahead of final exams

Polokwane Gr 12 learners share how they’re preparing for the 2025 NSC final exams starting Monday.

POLOKWANE – As the countdown to the 2025 National Senior Certificate final exams enters its final stretch, Gr 12 learners across Polokwane are feeling the pressure and the excitement of one of the most defining moments of their school careers.

With exams officially starting on Monday, some learners say the past weeks have been filled with late-night study sessions and last-minute revisions, while others are focusing on staying calm and confident.

The Polokwane Review-Observer spoke to a few Gr 12 learners from various schools across the city to find out how they’re feeling ahead of their upcoming exams and whether they think they’ve prepared well enough.

Sharon Armando (Eagle’s Nest Christian School): I’m feeling hopeful and trusting in God’s guidance as the final exams approach. To prepare, I’m reviewing key notes daily, practicing past exam papers, and making sure to balance study with breaks. I’m also studying diligently, praying for wisdom and peace, and staying calm through faith. Establishing a clear study schedule and focusing on weaker subjects helps me build confidence and readiness for the exams. I also focus on taking care of myself with enough rest and asking God for strength to do my best. A Bible verse that encourages me during this time is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I also pray for calmness, focus, and God’s presence throughout my exams, knowing He is my helper and guide.
Resego Tlagadi (PEPPS): There is a lot of pressure surrounding the final exams which has caused some anxiety, however, I am also excited to finish and finish strong. I have been working hard all year and I do not plan on dropping the ball now. I am and plan to continue working hard, studying hard and most importantly, praying hard, bearing always in mind, Jeremiah 29:11.
Tshepo Sheea (Eagle’s Nest Christian School): I think I’m ready because, you know, I’ve been practicing and I think I’ve practiced enough. Now it’s just up to me to just practice more past papers and just enter the exam with confidence. There’s a saying I heard that it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish, so I’m going to use that as I approach the exams.

Naledi Moganedi (MEPS): As the final exams approach, I feel both reflective and determined to give it my best. My prelims have helped me identify exactly where I need to improve in different subjects, and I plan on using that knowledge as a steppingstone. My preparation is more balanced, focusing on both academic effort and well-being. So, I’d say it’s going well. I rest when needed so I can give my best when it matters most. Above all, I’m trusting God through this process. I believe that with faith, focus, and perseverance, the effort we, as matriculants, put in over the years will bear fruit in due time.
How am I preparing for my examinations? Every day, I have three subjects, either two of my theory subjects and a number subject, or two of my number subjects and a theory subject, and I allocate two hours to each subject, four formats, obviously. And how do I feel? I’m really trying to keep grounded to my faith. There’s a scripture that speaks about how we should keep our minds right, so I’m trying not to succumb to my negative thoughts, all the doubts that I have within myself, and trying to believe all the positive and all the life that people are speaking into me. But yeah, otherwise, I’m quite excited to finish my trick. Let’s go.
Tshegofatso Talakgale (MEPS): There’s a bit of nervousness approaching the exams, but I have faith that it’s going to go well by grace. The preparations are going well. I’m focused and making steady progress.
Connor Cole (PEPPS): I am feeling stressed for the upcoming finals but I know it should be done one way or another. My strategy is writing, reading, remembering and repeat. Also getting it right the first time so I won’t have to do it again.
Neo Monyepao (MEPS): Honesty speaking, I’m feeling mixed emotions about these final examinations. There is a bit of nervousness but this term I’m looking forward to fixing my previous errors and hope to fly by the beginning of next year. So far, I can say the spring school program has given me a proper direction on how to prepare, so preparation wise although with pressure due to limited time it is better than before.
Mukundi Hlabioa (PEPPS): I am anxious but also excited because its the last lap. The strategy is to start as soon as possible and to stop procrastinating.
Tshegofatso Makobela (MEPS): I’m feeling a little bit anxious as these upcoming exams are the ones that actually determine my future but at the same time, I have faith in myself because I know I can and I definitely will prosper. My preparations for the upcoming final exams are actually going fine I’m just trying by all possible means to balance all my subjects and also prioritize my weak subjects even though it’s not easy but I’m trying to cope till this phase ends.
