Transport Dept: Mukula road in Limpopo closed due to flooding

Flooding has closed the P277/1 route at Mukula and drivers are advised to follow alternative routes and exercise caution

LIMPOPO – The Department of Transport and Community Safety has informed motorists that the P277/1 route at Mukula leading to the Mutale area is currently closed due to flooding.

Department spokesperson Mashudu Mabata advised motorists to make use of alternative routes. Drivers are urged to turn right at Mukula James Centre or Usave and proceed via Matombeni Primary School.

Alternative routes for motorists

“At the side junction, motorists should join the Mudagasini D3701 (Mukula–Tshaulu route) and turn left to reconnect with the P277/1, proceeding towards the Khubvi–Makonde route,” said Mabata.

Motorists travelling from Makonde to Khubvi are advised to turn left at Mukula Cross towards the D3701 Tshaulu route, then at Mudagasini turn right towards Mukula James or Usave to rejoin the P277/1.

Drivers urged to exercise caution

Mabata urged drivers to exercise extreme caution when travelling on the R524 and R523 routes, where numerous potholes and fallen trees have been reported following heavy rainfall.

All road users are encouraged to drive carefully on wet roads to avoid accidents.

Updates on the status of the affected road will be communicated as they become available.
