Insurance murders: 8 accused in court for bail applications
Eight accused in the Limpopo insurance murders appear in Polokwane Magistrate's Court as two cases are postponed and four plead not guilty.
POLOKWANE – Eight accused appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today, April 15, for a bail application.
Accused number 4, Johannes Shokane, had his matter postponed to April 17. The defence indicated it will present evidence to argue that he is mentally unfit and should be admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Accused number 7, David Kutumela, who is the husband of Rachel Kutumela, also had his bail application postponed to April 17.
The defence stated that they were not ready to proceed.
The remaining six accused are being defended by Legal Aid. Their affidavits were read before the court today.
Four of them – Thomas Shokane (50), William Shokane (41), Damaris Selepe (37), and Benedictor Mataba (46) – are pleading not guilty.
The affidavits of the remaining two accused will be read tomorrow (Thursday. April 16).
