Correctional services employee murdered in Modimolle
A manhunt is under way after a woman working at Modimolle Correctional Centre was fatally shot while walking to work.
LIMPOPO – Police in Modimolle have launched a manhunt following the fatal shooting of a female correctional services official on Tuesday morning, May 12.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 06:30 along Nelson Mandela Road. The woman was reportedly walking from her rented accommodation to the Modimolle Correctional Centre when she was approached by an unknown man.
Police said an altercation allegedly occurred before the woman was shot twice in the upper body.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released pending further investigation and notification of next of kin, was declared dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
The suspect fled the scene on foot and has not yet been arrested.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe has instructed specialised police units to intensify the search for the suspect.
