LIMPOPO – Two men aged 41 and 44 are expected to appear before the Motetema Periodical Court on Monday, May 18, after being arrested in connection with the attempted murder after attacking a man with a panga in Mohlalaotwane Village.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the incident took place on Thursday, May 14, under the Rakgoadi policing area in the Sekhukhune District.
According to Ledwaba, police members carrying out crime prevention duties received information from the Community Service Centre about a man who had been taken to hospital after being assaulted with a panga.
“Upon arrival at the hospital, police interviewed the 33-year-old victim, who was receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained to the upper body, including the head,” said Ledwaba.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and several community members were returning from a meeting at Rakgoadi Moshate concerning the construction of the Mabitsi road when they were confronted by the suspects.
Police said their vehicle was stopped before they were assaulted with fists and a panga.
The injured man reportedly managed to drive to a nearby police station while accompanied by other occupants in the vehicle, with the suspects pursuing them.
Police intervened and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
A case of attempted murder has been opened and investigations are continuing.
