LIMPOPO – Police in Mecklenburg under the Sekhukhune District have opened a murder case and two counts of attempted murder following a brutal panga attack that claimed one life and left two others injured.

The incident happened at Modimolle Village, near Dophale, during the early hours of Sunday, May 17.

Argument over drinking beer

According to preliminary reports, the victims were socialising at a local tavern at about 12:30 AM when an argument allegedly erupted between them and the suspect.

The victims reportedly refused to drink beer with him.

Suspect left, then returned with a weapon

The situation escalated into a quarrel, prompting the suspect to leave the tavern premises.

It is further alleged that the suspect later returned armed with a panga and began attacking the victims inside the tavern yard, causing panic as patrons fled for safety.

Victim identified

During the attack, Karabo Mochadi (43) of Ntsoaneng Village sustained multiple panga wounds to the head and left foot. He was certified dead at the scene.

Two others injured

Two other victims, aged 23 and 43, sustained serious injuries during the incident. Both were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Suspect on the run

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack and is currently being sought by police.
