Police arrest 2 suspects in Mankweng and Phaudi murders

Limpopo police have arrested two suspects in separate murder cases reported in the Mankweng and Phaudi policing areas.

POLOKWANE – Police in the Mankweng and Phaudi policing areas have arrested two suspects in connection with separate murder cases reported on Sunday, May 17.

Fatal tavern altercation in Ga-Molepo leads to arrest

In the first incident, a 27-year-old man was arrested after a 22-year-old man allegedly sustained fatal injuries during an altercation at a tavern in Ga-Molepo Laastehoop.

According to police, officers were called to a local hospital where the injured man had been admitted. The victim later died in hospital.

Police spokespersons said preliminary investigations indicate the victim and the suspect were allegedly involved in a dispute at the tavern during which a bottle was allegedly used.

The deceased has been identified as Ramphago Phakiso (22) of Ga-Molepo Laastehoop.

Wife allegedly killed in Ga-Piet village

In a separate incident, police in Phaudi arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the death of his 49-year-old wife at Ga-Piet village.

Police said officers responded to a complaint and, on arrival at the scene, found the woman’s body inside a room with multiple injuries. Emergency medical services personnel declared her dead at the scene.

The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards.

Police condemn violence and urge peaceful conflict resolution

Provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe condemned the incidents and urged community members to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid acts of violence. She also encouraged victims and community members to report domestic violence-related matters before situations escalate.

The suspects are expected to appear separately in the Mankweng and Seshego magistrate’s courts on Tuesday, May 19, on charges of murder.

Police investigations are continuing.
