2 arrested for pointing firearm at CIT truck in Seshego

Two suspects were arrested after pointing a firearm at a cash-in-transit truck on the R567. One was injured and led police to the second suspect.

POLOKWANE – Two male suspects, aged 32 and 36, are expected to appear before the Matlala Periodical Court on Thursday, on charges of pointing a firearm and illegal possession of a firearm.

The suspects were arrested by Matlala police following an incident at Mabopane Village in the Gamatlala policing area on Monday.

According to reports, a 52-year-old man was driving an open bakkie escorting a cash-in-transit truck along the Seshego-Gilead Road (R567) when a white Toyota overtook the truck.

It is alleged that a passenger in the Toyota pointed a firearm at the cash-in-transit truck.

Cash-in-transit crew returned fire

Members of the cash-in-transit crew responded with gunfire. The suspects fled the scene, abandoning the Toyota before escaping into a nearby house and into the bushes.

One suspect injured, leads police to second suspect

Police traced and interviewed the owner of the abandoned vehicle, who provided information that led to the identification of the driver. One suspect, who had sustained gunshot injuries, was subsequently arrested.

He later assisted police in locating a second suspect.

Second suspect found with firearm

Upon arrival at the identified location, police found the second suspect in possession of a firearm. He was also found to have injuries and was immediately arrested.

The firearm and the abandoned Toyota were seized as part of the investigation.
