5 arrested for public violence after Dzanani protest blocks R523

Five suspects were arrested for public violence after protesters blocked the R523 road with stones and electricity poles in Tshikuwi village.

LIMPOPO – Five male suspects aged between 19 and 38 were apprehended for public violence following a protest in Tshikuwi village under the Mphephu precinct on Friday, June 19.

At about 7:15 AM, police were summoned to the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court to restore order after community members from Tshikuwi gathered and began protesting at the court.

Police instructed the protesters to calm down and refrain from damaging property.

Road blocked with stones and electricity poles

Police later proceeded to the Dzanani complex to conduct stop and search operations. While on duty, they received information that Tshikuwi community members had blocked the R523 public road connecting Luvhalani to Wylliespoort.

Upon arrival at the R523, police found the road obstructed with stones and electricity poles.

POPS deployed to clear the road

Public Order Policing (POPS) members were deployed to stabilise the situation and clear the roadway to restore traffic flow.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 22, facing a charge of public violence.
