14 killed in two horror crashes in Sekhukhune District
Five died in a crash on the R555 and nine in a second on the D4370, with recklessness and speeding possibly to blame.
LIMPOPO – Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, has expressed sadness after two separate incidents claimed 14 lives in the Sekhukhune District yesterday (Saturday).
The first crash
The first crash occurred along the R555 road between Stoffberg and Rossenkraal in the Elias Motsoaledi Municipality. The crash involved three vehicles, including a light motor vehicle, a combi and a truck, resulting in five passengers perishing at the scene.

While investigations are underway, recklessness cannot be ruled out as a contributing factor, the MEC said.
The second crash
The second incident, involving a Polo and a Tazz, occurred on the D4370 road from Phokwane to Mamphogo in the Makhuduthamaga Municipality. Preliminary investigations suggest that speeding may have been the cause.
Four passengers from the Polo and five from the Toyota Tazz lost their lives instantly.
In total, six passengers were injured in both collisions and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
