AARTO Act now in effect, warns Polokwane Municipality
The AARTO Act is now in effect. Motorists who pay fines within 32 days get 50% off, those who don't pay the full amount.
POLOKWANE – The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Act came into effect on July 1, 2026, and applies within the jurisdiction of Polokwane Municipality.
Motorists are advised to take note of the following key provisions:
Pay within 32 days for 50% discount
An automatic 50% discount on the infringement penalty is available if payment is made within 32 days from the date the infringement notice is issued.
Failure to pay within the prescribed 32-day period will result in the full infringement amount becoming payable.
Additional costs for late payment
Where an infringement remains unpaid, additional administrative processes, including the issuing of a Courtesy Letter, may follow. These processes attract additional costs, which will be borne by the infringer.
Continued failure to settle outstanding infringement penalties may result in restrictions during the renewal of a driver’s licence or motor vehicle licence, until all outstanding amounts have been paid.
