Grace and elegance at Taxila Secondary’s Mr and Miss pageant

Taxila Secondary School hosted its Mr and Miss Taxila 2026/27 pageant under the theme "Elegant", with Obonolo Chueu and Soletha Matlala crowned.

POLOKWANE – Grace, confidence and elegance lit up Taxila Secondary School as the school hosted the much-anticipated Mr and Miss Taxila 2026/27 pageant under the theme “Elegant”.

The pageant took place on October 9 at the school’s assembly area, with family and friends coming out in numbers to support their favourite contestants.

Teachers open the runway

Before the official competition started, teachers opened the stage by walking the runway first, setting a warm and exciting tone for the evening.

Learners then took to the stage in various attires, impressing the judging panel with their modelling and performance techniques, as well as their amazing and unique personalities.

The judging panel

The judging panel included:

  • Zeah Nel (Mrs Limpopo Province 2023)
  • Manani Botes (Mrs Intercontinental Africa 2026 first runner-up)
  • Terrence Magongwa (2026 Mr and Mrs Boston’s first prince)
  • Mahlatse Vokal (musician)
  • Lebogang “KingWiz” Madibana (fashion designer)

More than a beauty competition

The audience was kept entertained throughout the event. Various artists performed in between outfit changes. Other learners also showcased their talents through poetry recitals and group and duet dances.

More than just a beauty competition, the pageant runs under the motto, “Grace, Confidence, Purpose, Shine with elegance and lead with light” and the school’s ethos, “Walk With Light”.

The initiative aims to build confidence, leadership and self-esteem among learners, while also serving as a fundraising initiative for the school.

Organisers congratulate participants

One of the organisers and teacher, Reginah Magolo, congratulated all the participants.

“We would like to congratulate all the participants for their hard work during practice. Well done to all of you,” said Magolo.

She also thanked the Taxila staff who assisted during the event.

Principal Tlou Ramara also congratulated the learners and said he knows they will use the titles for a good cause to give back to the community, on behalf of the school.

Anne Mametja

My name is Anne Mametja. I am a mom of four and an identical twin. With a passion for media, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Television Production in 2012 and due to my love for children, I also hold a certificate in Nursing Auxiliary. As media is my first love, I started working at the Polokwane Review as a journalist in 2017 and it has been amazing thus far. I love journalism because I can be a voice to the community through my work. Journalism allows me to meet different people at the events I attend. Although there are certain beats that journalists stick to, being an all-rounder means I write community, schools, sports, hard, lifestyle and entertainment news. It also allows me to be versatile in the newsroom and assist where I can. ‘Journalism can never be silent, that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault.’
