PEMPS’ Carissa finds joy in teaching Gr Rs

Carissa Erasmus says her favourite part of the day is being able to interact, read the Bible, praise and worship with learners during circle time.

POLOKWANE – Carissa Erasmus finds joy in working with Gr R learners.

She is a Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (PEMPS) Gr R teacher and joined the team at the beginning of the year. She said she started her career in 2015 as an assistant teacher while studying towards a teaching qualification. Over the years, she has taught foundation phase learners and this year, she has a new home with the Gr Rs.

Erasmus explained that there is no greater pleasure than teaching little ones, as they are a breath of fresh air. Every day is different and unpredictable because she works with such innocent souls, she said.

“They give you new breath and shine a new light every day. Those little hands will touch your heart. The most important thing is to make a difference in their lives,” she said.

Her favourite part of her day is circle time in the mornings where learners have the opportunity to share how their afternoons and evenings went.

“During this time, we read the Bible as well as praise and worship together.”

She added that the one thing she constantly reminds her learners of, is that they should always believe in themselves regardless of their size, because they become who they believe they are.

“They should never doubt themselves.”
