Polokwane mayor’s festive message to all residents

Our quest to become a high-paced service-delivery driven municipality and the ultimate in innovation and sustainable development continues.

We have kicked off this festive season with a pre-Christmas celebration by distributing toys to needy children throughout the municipality, hosted a free music festival in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, and also hosted a military parade in the city. On Friday, December 6 we officially switched on the festive lights.

As we get ourselves ready to spend quality time with our beloved families and friends, we must always do so responsibly. We should be patient on the road, tolerate one another and drive to arrive safe at our various destinations. Let us all avoid drinking and driving for that is the cause of many fatalities on our roads. Our law enforcement officers will be dispatched throughout the municipality to ensure your safety during this season.

We encourage young people to enjoy their break responsibly and use their holiday time in a responsible manner. We urge them to stay away from putting their lives at risk, including alcohol and drug abuse, and to abstain from irresponsible sexual activities. We wish those who sat for 2013 matric examinations good luck and hope for the best results.

As we take each step into the new year, we do so with the assurance that the people of Polokwane continue to embrace our diversity and heritage and strive for social cohesion. We urge men in our communities to carry out their mandate of taking care and protecting their families. It is our desire that no child, no woman, no daughter and no wife is abused.

We thank God for protecting us all and for leading us throughout another the year and we also pray that he delivers us into 2014 unharmed. We ask that this Christmas; let us bring delight to others with just one act of kindness.
