POLOKWANE – The management of the Polokwane Athletic Club (PAC) is elated after they reached one of their milestones.
The club set out to enter 100 runners in the 90th Comrades Marathon in 2015 to coincide with the club’s 30-year celebrations next year. They reached their milestone on Monday afternoon.
“What makes the achievement even better is that there is still the whole month of November left to enter and we anticipate that approximately another 20 runners will enter in the last month.
“We are very proud of this achievement as it will be the biggest group of runners in the club’s history that will participate in the Comrades Marathon,” said Johan Janse van Vuuren, chairperson of the club.
“There is still time left for other hopefuls who would consider entering and running this ultimate human race.”
To date, approximately 14 000 entries were captured for next year’s Comrades and the limit allowed to run the race is set at 23 000. The closing date for entries is on November 30.
Hopefuls and prospective Comrades runners can join any of the Polokwane Athletic Club Comrades training groups that cater for serious runners and runners who want to finish the race within 12 hours.
The club will also host a Comrades informative workshop on Wednesday, December 3, at 19:00 at their clubhouse at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. This will start at 19:00.
Next year will see the 90th Comrades Marathon hosted by the Comrades Marathon Association.
For this purpose, a special once-off medal will be handed out to everybody who finishes the event within the 12-hour cut-off time.
