Vodacom Blue Bulls have in the past not disappointed on Polokwane soil with the exception of 2014 when they were trampled 19-26 by the DHL Stormers.
In 2013 the Blue Bulls whipped the Toyota Cheetahs 32-10 and last year defeated them 30-13. This year however fans have mixed feelings about the game.
BB Group Dealer Principal and Blue Bulls supporter, Karel Ferreira said it is going to be a tough game for the Bulls.
“The Lions ended the rugby season on a high note by winning the Absa Currie Cup. They are geared and motivated to start the new season and Bulls will have to up their game to secure a win,” Ferreira said.
He predicts a score 12-9 in favour of the Bulls and said points will be determined mostly by kicks.
Hollies Holtzhauzen is one of the Blue Bulls biggest local fans who said the game has a 50/50 chance of victory for both teams. “In my heart I hope the Blue Bulls can claim the victory but my brain tells me that the Lions, who are much more motivated, might take the win this year,” he said. He added that it was difficult to make a prediction as the final squad has not been announced yet.
“The Lions have the ability to win but our blood is blue and all hope is on the Blue Bulls,” Vleislapa owner, Marius van Tonder said. He added that after last year’s winning of the Currie Cup the Lions might try to show off but that his confidence remains lying in the Bulls. He predicted a score of 35-27 in favour of the Bulls.
Lions supporter Leana Pretorius is confident that the Lions are going to make mince meat of the Bulls.
“The Lions showed what rugby is all about – motivation and team play. I have been a Lions supporter since 1995 and the team has developed well and is a force to be reckoned with. I hope to see a score of 25-15 in favour of the red team,” she said.
